Now that I have several weddings under my belt and have fielded many other inquiries from potential bridal clients, I’m realizing that most people don’t understand why hiring a professional photographer for an event is costly. Even more to the point, if you’re in the market for a wedding or event photographer, you’ve probably wondered, “Why should I pay big bucks when Uncle Joe has a nice camera and can shoot my wedding?”
...It may not help the frugal future family to shell out big bucks for a professional photographer, but an explanation may help young couples know what to expect (both from the pro and Uncle Joe!), and make a decision they are willing to live with.
...In some cases, this will work just fine; however, you are familiar with what often happens with automatic flash: People looking at the camera have that special red, deer-in-the-headlights look to their eyes; faces can look flat and brighter than their surroundings; the light is simply inadequate for the task and everything comes up short; or, the flash overpowers everything in sight and you lose your shots to white-out not unlike the Snowmageddon blizzards of 2010.
...It appears that the bride and groom are in the light of a warm spotlight that emanates from the right, while the cake in the foreground is lighted by a source to our left and behind the camera.
